There is an abundance of wildlife in the Lake Jackson basin, both in wooded areas as well as intermingled in urban spaces. Most every mammal common to Florida lives in the basin – white tailed deer, rabbits, opossum, raccoons, fox, river otters, squirrels are the most common.

Waterfowl and wading birds are likewise abundant – white egrets, snowy egrets, great blue herons, Louisiana herons, anhinga and even limpkins enjoy the waters of and around the lake. Yes, Lake Jackson also has alligators in abundance! They are most visible and heard during the late winter nesting season. There are also numerous snakes and turtles in and around the lake.
